DAY 1: Check-in.

DAY 2: 

Morning

- Visit to the National Park Gate: Campo do Gerês

This museum centre encompasses: The Ethnographic Museum of Vilarinho das Furnas, where we can observe the lifestyle of the ancient community of this currently submerged village; The Geira Museum, where we can learn how a Roman road was built and the history of the Roman empire in this part of the Iberian Peninsula; In the Interpretative Centre of Campo do Gerês we can learn how Gerês’ mountain was created, which ecosystems are predominant and learn more about the its fauna and flora.

Afternoon 

- Horseback ride through the valley of Vilarinho das Furnas and visit to the village of Campo do Gerês

DAY 3:

- Horseback ride to Castelo Hill/Castro Mount 17,5 km (linear)

Starting at Campo do Gerês, one of the National Park gates, we’ll head to St. Isabel do Monte.

We’ll follow through the oak forests of Paredes’ village, to visit the monument of Bom Jesus das Mós. After crossing Covide valley we'll climb to Monte do Castelo, which will be the highlight of our visit - The Castle of Bouro, at 890 meters. This natural fortification was extremely important in the defense of Portela do Homem border. Lastly, we’ll go to St. Isabel do Monte to stay overnight.

DAY 4:

- Horseback ride to Abadia Sanctuary 20 km (circular)

Starting at St. Isabel do Monte, we’ll cross the forest paths and visit the Abadia’s Sanctuary, which is considered by many the most ancient Marian sanctuary, possibly built between the 7th and 8th centuries. However, according the legend, there was a primitive sanctuary named Mountain Monastery, around the  year 883. After visiting the sanctuary and pausing for a picnic, we’ll head to the village of Ventozelo, a very characteristic village. Lastly, we’ll head to St. Isabel do Monte, where we’ll stay overnight. In addition to the magnificent landscapes, it’s also possible to spot Garranos (wild horses) and other species of the local fauna.

DAY 5:

- Horseback ride - Forest Trail 22 km (linear) 

Starting point at the village of St. Isabel do Monte and end at Campo do Gerês. We’ll start with visit to the mountain villages and then head to a fantastic viewpoint over the Caniçada dam. We’ll cross wide forest roads of oak trees and pass through the village of Freitas, ending at Campo do Gerês through the Roman road.

DAY 6:

- Horseback ride to the waterfalls

Starting at Campo do Gerês, we’ll pass through the valley of Vilarinho das Furnas and then cross Mata da Albergaria, a secular oak tree forest. During this journey we’ll make several stops throughout the Roman road, to observe the milestones left by the Roman Empire. After, we’ll stop for a picnic/lunch at Portela do Homem waterfall, where we can dive in the crystal-clear waters of the Homem river. Lastly, we’ll return to Campo do Gerês.

DAY 7: Check-out.
